GMAC Weather Predict-o-tron...?!
« on: 28/10/2014, 03:51:26 PM »
All,

As you may (or may not) have seen, the GMAC Website now has a Weather Gadget that shows the future weather at the two strips:

http://greenacresmac.co.uk/J/index.php/weather/jims-weather-gadget

Chris has very kindly called it "Jims Weather Gadget"  :)

In the lower right corner it now shows a summary of the weather that we should get on the following day, and a little form so pilots can log to say that they will be flying the following day.

I originally developed this so I could figure out if I should put all my gear in the car before going to work so I could fly at lunchtime or after work. I'm about 30 minutes (minimum) away from the field in Central Birmingham.,

The next improvement will be an email based message that I could deliver to your Inbox or mobile phone (if you have mobile email access) that would summarise the next days weather conditions at the strip.

The message would take the form:

Quote
Hello Jim,

Wednesdays' wind will be from 74° (Good - Along the strip!) and gusting up to 11 mph (Bad - Too windy!)

The temperature will be about 12°C and you should have Sunny Intervals.

Have a good flight!

The GMAC Weather Predict-o-tron

I will certainly be sending this to myself each day, but would it be of any use to anyone else?

If so, please send me the email address that you would want it sent to on a Private Message via the forum.

Cheers!

Jim

Update: 29/10/2014

The new GMAC Weather Predict-o-tron is now live!

Myself and Danny Fenton are testing / debuging.

We even have integration with the Pilot Flying Tomorrow feature from the "Jims Weather Gadget" page on the GMAC website.

If anyone wants to be including, please send me a Private Message containing:

1) Your full name
2) Your email address
3) What hour of the day you would like to receive the email. I get mine at 9:00 AM showing the next days predicted weather.
4) What email format you want. Options are HTML (works in most modern email systems and web-based email like GMail etc) or PLAIN, which is very simple plain text.

Cheers!
