Soldering Workshop?
« on: 09/04/2015, 08:31:36 AM »
All,

One thing that I've noticed since being with the club is that for some the transition to electric powered flight has been made problematic by some difficulties in soldering.

I'm lucky in that I've been in the electronics game since the age of nine, but I recognise that many members haven't had that experience.

Would anyone be interested in running a "Soldering Workshop" during one of the club nights?

I could bring along a soldering iron and some test pieces (Deans / XT60 connectors, wires, ESCs, motors etc) and show you my technique for sticking them all together...

To Reg, Peaky and other committee member: Is this something that could be arranged?

I'm sure that the Labour Club wouldn't mind us borrowing some of their electricity. I can also guarantee safety, as I'll bring a heat-proof mat with me to protect the tables.

Please let me know if you're interested via this forum.

Cheers!

It is indeed an excellent idea Jim.

I'd mention it to Reg or John whenever you bump in to one of them though, I've no idea how often they look in here.
If it does get arranged, then let me know and I'll pop it on the website.

Chris / Danny,

Spoke to Reg at the field yesterday morning (before bottling out of flying in the high wind  ??? ) and he is 100% behind the idea.

We agreed that it will most likely be at the May Club Night, 27th May, unless the Fun Fly throws up something that requires membership attension?!

For now, can we put a notice on the GMAC Homepage along the lines of:

Soldering Workshop at GMAC Clubnight May 27th

Thanks!

I can soon do that Jim.

Bear in mind that when a clubnight falls just after a fly in, that it's usually very very quiet.
I think you should definitely do it, but don't be too disappointed if numbers are lower than usual.

Understood. Saying that I'm happy to repeat if demand is there....

Hi Jim brilliant idea mate, i for one would be interested in your demo as i do my soldering a bit hit and miss and sometimes get some shody results so would be great for me, thats if i'm not on the late shift that week and thank's for making the effort to do somthing for club night.
